What is THE NONPROFIT DIRECTORY?

THE NONPROFIT DIRECTORY presents in-depth information about nonprofits serving Collier County. Powered by GuideStar and supported by Community Foundation staff, this powerful philanthropic tool is the resource for nonprofits, donors, funders or anyone interested in knowing all about the programs and services provided by the members of our vibrant nonprofit community.

There is no charge to participate in or access the information in THE NONPROFIT DIRECTORY.

What is Guidestar?

GuideStar is the industry standard for providing people and organizations with information on the programs and finances of more than 1.8 million IRS-recognized nonprofits.

GuideStar’s mission is to revolutionize philanthropy and nonprofit practice by providing information that advances transparency, enables users to make better decisions and encourages charitable giving.

Data about nonprofit organizations is shared between the Community Foundation of Collier County and Guidestar. Information from your Community Foundation Profile will be uploaded to the GuideStar website on a quarterly basis.

Why did The Community Foundation create THE NONPROFIT DIRECTORY?

The Community Foundation's mission is to connect donors with philanthropic information about our community. By sharing information about nonprofits that serve Collier County, we inform and inspire confidence in donors; build professionalism in nonprofit organizations; and, increase the public's awareness and understanding of local nonprofit organizations.

Does the Community Foundation endorse organizations in THE NONPROFIT DIRECTORY?

THE NONPROFIT DIRECTORY is NOT a charity evaluator or a watchdog. We collect, organize and share information about the nonprofits serving Collier County.

THE NONPROFIT DIRECTORY is a platform to showcase Collier County nonprofits and to inform our community about their programs, services, governance and fiscal health.

The Community Foundation's grantmaking activities rely on this kind of credible data. Each nonprofit agency's Profile is reviewed by Community Foundation staff to ensure that all data fields are complete.

What is a Profile?

The nonprofit agency Profile offers a wealth of knowledge about the organization: mission and vision statements, contact information, board and governance information, program descriptions and impact, services offered, history of the organization, initiatives and campaigns planned, and financial detail. Nonprofits create their Profiles for the NONPROFIT DIRECTORY.

The Community Foundation staff reviews each Profile to ensure that the nonprofit is eligible to be included in THE NONPROFIT DIRECTORY and that all required fields are complete. Profiles must be updated annually.

Where does the financial information come from?

Information provided in the financial section of each Profile is provided by the nonprofit organization. The IRS Form 990 (the return of an organization exempt from income tax), is provided by the IRS.

Does The Community Foundation guarantee the accuracy of data?

The Community Foundation of Collier County do not guarantee the accuracy of the data, make any representations or warranties with regard to nonprofits in the database, or verify that the nonprofits are in compliance with all state and federal requirements. However, our partnership with GuideStar strengthens our objective: to provide the most accurate information available through document verification by the IRS.

Why are some nonprofits excluded?

THE NONPROFIT DIRECTORY contains Profiles of 501(c)(3) public charities serving Collier County. The database does not contain profiles for private foundations or religious organizations operating for religious purposes only (i.e. churches, synagogues, mosques).

Are on-line donations secure?

Information about any on-line donations that you make through THE NONPROFIT DIRECTORY and all communications initiated when you make those donations are transmitted via Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). The SSL protocol is the industry standard for providing an encrypted, secure connection between your web browser and a web server.

Are there fees associated with THE NONPROFIT DIRECTORY?

Participation in or access to THE NONPROFIT DIRECTORY is free of charge.

When you make a donation to a nonprofit through THE NONPROFIT DIRECTORY, there will be service and processing fees assessed by third-party vendors and by the Community Foundation.

Fees:
An average of 3% of the amount of your gift is assessed to cover credit card processing and transaction fees to the online donation software provider and the merchant service provider.

Can I print my organizational Profile?

Yes, log into your Profile, click on Preview and then View Printable Profile. This will create a pdf version of the Profile that can be saved, shared or printed.

Why are there "uneditable" fields in the profile?

Some fields are only editable by the Commuity Foundation. These include, EIN, IRS ruling year and incorporation year. It is also the Community Foundation’s responsibility to delete any documents from the Profile. Questions? How do I submit changes so that they can be published by The Community Foundation?

Click on “Send to Foundation” to submit any changes to your Profile. Community Foundation staff will review and post.

How long does it take to receive donations made to us through THE NONPROFIT DIRECTORY?

Gift reports are generated weekly. The Community Foundation will prepare checks for the appropriate nonprofit agency and mail that check wtihin three weeks of the gift receipt.

Are gifts made through THE NONPROFIT DIRECTORY tax deductible?

Donations made through THE NONPROFIT DIRECTORY are 100% tax-deductible. THE NONPROFIT DIRECTORY cannot be used to sell tickets, products, services or any items for which the donor receives the market value of that item.
